On Monday 1st March, the Dubai office started a month-long challenge which will see the entire team, including family and friends, complete the distance between Aberdeen (activpayroll HQ) and Dubai. The team, which comprises of 57 members, will clock up the whopping 3568 miles by walking, running, cycling and swimming their way around Dubai throughout the month.
In a normal year, activpayroll would be taking part in a range of challenges for Friends of Anchor, however with many events postponed or cancelled due to coronavirus, Friends of Anchor has suffered a dramatic loss of income. Going the Distance has proven to be a lifeline for the charity and the campaign has already raised over £63,000 since launching in June 2020.
Rally for Research marks Friends of Anchor’s third Going the Distance event and it has already proven to be the most record-breaking yet, with over 300 signed up to take part, from more than 20 businesses. The charity as a whole is aiming to cover an ambitious 72,000 miles throughout March in a bid to raise funds for seven pioneering new studies, including research into breast cancer, mouth cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer and leukaemia and lymphoma.
These crucially important lab studies will receive early-seed funding at an average cost of around £14,000 with the hope they can achieve pilot data that will go on to secure national funding. The activpayroll team is looking to smash their target while raising life-changing funds for the charity. If you would like to support the team, please visit this link to donate.
Kimberly Morrison, Payroll Operations Manager – Middle East, commented: “As a business, we have been proud supporters of Friends of Anchor for many years, having taken part in several challenges for the charity including Glack Attack, Wipeout, Kiltwalk, Run Balmoral and multiple skydives. With many events being cancelled this year and last, we thought it was vitally important to keep the momentum going by taking part in Rally for Research all the way from Dubai. Despite having the soaring temperatures to contend with, Friends of Anchor is a charity close to my heart and I have witnessed first-hand what generous public support and fundraising can achieve!”
