What is your name?
Rabi Singh Rawat
What is your role title?
APAC Payroll Team Lead
What do you do?
I work in activpayroll’s Singapore office and I manage the on-going payroll process for the APAC region.
What key skills do you bring to activpayroll?
I have a background in accounting and finance, having worked in APAC payroll in both India and Singapore. I believe I bring my knowledge of payroll validation to the company, for instance I have built additional controls, allowing me to encourage and help my team using these tools.
What gives you the most satisfaction about your job?
Gaining positive feedback from customers is always satisfying as it is confirmation that I have done a good job. Having a friendly and successful relationship with customers, partners and colleagues also gives me great pride in the work I do.
How did you get into the Payroll industry and why?
I never planned it as such, however I love numbers more than words so perhaps that’s why I found myself working in the payroll and finance industry.
What has been the most challenging project you’ve worked on at activpayroll? Why?
One of the most recent and challenging projects I’ve worked on was when a customer instructed the team to process their payroll in two fortnightly payments rather than one monthly payment. This had to be implemented in seven APAC countries with extremely short notice.
Once we received this instruction, we co-ordinated with our UK colleagues and our local payroll partners. The UK team, along with David Lee and myself in Singapore, worked late evenings and weekends in order to see the project through to fruition. The successful implementation of this project was down to the excellent collaboration and communication between the Aberdeen and Singapore offices along with our country partners.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement outside of activpayroll?
My greatest achievement is yet to come, I don’t want to give anything away, but hopefully it will be achieved by the end of 2016 - watch this space!
What company value means the most to you and why?
‘Committed to service excellence’ means the most to me as I always like to ensure we provide the highest possible standard of service to customers. I am proud to work for a company that has been recognised in our industry for its commitment to service excellence through various awards.
Do you have any hobbies/ what do you like to do in your free time?
When I’m not catching up on sleep or enjoying a few drinks with my friends, I love to play and watch cricket matches.
Who is your professional role model and why?
The Late Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, the 11th President of India, has always been an inspiration to me. He started his life’s journey very underprivileged, from selling newspapers during his childhood to becoming a renowned scientist, then the President of India. This is an example of someone who had big dreams and turned them into reality.
If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be and why?
It would always be with my wife, Geeta, I enjoy my meals the best when we are having them together. Geeta is currently living in India and I hope to have her living with me in Singapore soon.
